Functional Attributes: Installing a liquid-gas separator in the refrigeration device is to prevent unheated refrigerant vapor from entering the compressor in the evaporator, which could cause wet compression (liquid strike) of the compressor.
The reasons for causing wet compression (liquid strike) of the compressor include:
- Incorrect piping installation;
- Insufficient evaporator capacity;
- Incorrect expansion valve selection;
- Excessive refrigerant charging;
- Excessive frost on the evaporator;
- Evaporator fan not running;
- Insufficient insulation of the suction pipe and low ambient temperature;
For the rational selection of the liquid-gas separator, the following points must be noted:
- It is strongly recommended to choose a regenerative type liquid-gas separator in refrigeration devices with an evaporation temperature below -15℃;
- The flow velocity in the U-shaped vertical ascending tube of the liquid-gas separator must not be less than 7.5 m/s to ensure good oil return;
- The flow velocity in the U-shaped vertical ascending tube of the liquid-gas separator must not exceed 12 m/s to avoid unreasonable pressure loss, especially in low evaporation temperature systems;
- If the refrigeration unit adopts capacity control, the flow velocity in the U-shaped vertical ascending tube must always be within 7.5 to 12 m/s;
- For parallel compressor units, choose a multi-suction pipe liquid-gas separator (if necessary, contact the O&F technical department). Each suction pipe corresponds to one compressor to ensure that each compressor can obtain the same flow velocity;
- Installation Method: Vertical Installation
- When installing the liquid-gas separator, try to install it as close as possible to the suction port of the compressor
